Jean (Hollingshead) Wescoat

Lois Jean Wescoat, the daughter of Artie B. and Frankie May (Minor) Hollingshead, was born November 27, 1934 at Riverton, Nebraska. She departed this life on March 13, 2024, at Brookstone Acres in Columbus, Nebraska at the age of 89 years.

Jean grew up in the Riverton area and graduated from the Riverton High School. She was united in marriage with Ernest E. Wescoat on June 6, 1954 at Riverton. This union was blessed with three children, Terry, JoLyn and Bryan. In 1961, the family moved to Red Cloud where in 1976, they purchased the Coast-to-Coast hardware store. They sold the business and retired in 1995. Jean was employed at the ASCS Office in Red Cloud for many years, retiring in 1989.

In their leisure time Jean and Ernie enjoyed traveling and had many adventures including Europe, Alaska and countless trips around the United States. They especially looked forward to time spent with family and friends. Jean was a gifted homemaker and enjoyed knitting, needlework and making dolls. She was an avid Husker volleyball and football fan through the years. Her greatest love and enthusiasm in life was for her family and she especially treasured the time they spent together. She was an active member of the Red Cloud Bible Church and Women’s group.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Ernie; son, Terry; daughter, JoLyn; a sister, Marjorie Reams Nelson, and two brothers, Raymond ‘Pete” Hollingshead and Harold Hollingshead.

Left to cherish her memory are her son, Bryan Wescoat of Colleyville, Texas; daughter-in-law, Susan Wescoat; three grandchildren, Zach Reicks and wife, Ashley; Tara Wescoat and Cole Wescoat and wife, Reanna; four great grandchildren, Leyton, Camden and Lily Reicks; and Brooks Wescoat; other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were Monday, 11:00 am, March 18, 2024, at the Red Cloud Bible Church with the Rev. Gary Bennett officiating. Interment was at the Red Cloud Cemetery.
